Why is a Business Roundtable focused on tourism so interesting? We can say that tourism encompasses the travel of people to other cities or countries. It also involves the activities they engage in at their destination and, consequently, the expenses incurred. This important economic activity is part of the tertiary sector and, until 2019, it was experiencing significant growth.
Tourism was one of the sectors of the economy that was heavily impacted by the pandemic. Unfortunately, we heard constant news of closed hotels, canceled tourist attractions, and suspended travel packages.
With the progress of vaccination, the demand for domestic and international travel has started to grow again, even with the Brazilian Real becoming increasingly devalued against the Euro and the US Dollar. And due to this demand, travelers are facing a certain increase in prices in this sector.
According to Mariana Aldrigui, President of the Tourism Council of Fecomercio-SP, we are facing “inflation in tourism,” meaning that over the past 12 months, it has accumulated a 16.75% increase.
Tourism – Future plans
Whoever planned a trip before receiving both vaccine doses now can’t travel with the same budget they had planned. “The amount we had set aside to travel after our second vaccine dose is no longer sufficient for the trip we intended to take to Portugal,” said Ricardo Seroni from Indaiatuba, São Paulo, to UOL.
But what does Business Matchmaking have to do with all of this? That’s what we’re going to address now.
Business Matchmaking in Tourism
Certainly, with the increasing demand for travel, the number of entrepreneurs organizing Business Matchmaking events to promote and showcase tourist destinations is also growing.
The Tourism Foundation of Mato Grosso achieved positive results with their Business Matchmaking event. For example, the event took place on October 14th and 17th, 2021, bringing together national and international suppliers from the tourism industry and 300 travel agents from the Northeastern markets of Rio Grande do Norte, ParaÃba, Sergipe, Ceará, and Pernambuco.
Bruno Wendling, the CEO of Fundtur, commented: “We presented Mato Grosso do Sul to operators from the Northeast who sometimes lack contact and market relationships with destinations from other regions, especially the Midwest. It was a great opportunity for us to promote our destinations and establish relationships with important operators from this region, which is a significant source of tourists for the country, not only in terms of inbound tourism. The outcome of the event was highly positive.”
Furthermore, the event included training sessions for travel agents, aimed at enhancing their knowledge to better sell products to different target audiences such as couples, youth, seniors, families, and the LGBTQ+ community. This event also provided opportunities for networking with new professionals.
Business Matchmaking at the Coastline
Another example was the event “EMPREENDA CARAGUATATUBA“ which took place from December 2nd to December 4th. During the three-day event, over five thousand people had the opportunity to explore what the 80 exhibitors had to offer.
The exhibitors invested in creativity to attract the attention of the public by offering various giveaways such as cups, pens, movie tickets, as well as food products like açaÃ, ice cream, and cupcakes.
Furthermore, on Friday, a Business Matchmaking session was conducted by Sebrae, involving more than 40 entrepreneurs. The Sebrae representative commented, “We had attendance at the booth, participation of the audience in the lectures, and, most importantly, the engagement of the business owners in the Business Matchmaking session. For us, this was already a success.”
Therefore, the Business Matchmaking session saw the participation of entrepreneurs from various sectors, including healthcare services, automotive sales, real estate agencies, creative service providers such as graphic designers, entrepreneurs focused on personal development services and training, franchisors, among others. The focus of the Business Matchmaking session was on mixed industries.
Advertising Campaign
Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande are also standing out! They participated in the initiative “O Rio continua lindo. E Perto” (Rio is still beautiful. And Close). The campaign covered four pillars: shopping malls, business meetings (“O Rio é de vocês” – Rio is yours), themed shows, and an advertising campaign in the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal, and Goiás. The chosen locations to host the action were large shopping malls due to their high footfall.
The State government also organized a Business Matchmaking event focused on tourism with the aim of boosting tourism flow in Rio during the high season of 2022.
